HYDRAULINK 80 YEARS – We’ve come so far…
“I joined the RAAF when I was 17 and built a 20-year career as an Aircraft Airframe Fitter, Instructor and Trade Examiner, with postings across Australia.”
“While we were living in Wagga, my wife was working nights at a motel and a traveller gave her an ENZED hat for me — and that small moment planted the seed for a completely different future.”
“We were later posted to Pearce, WA, and after two decades of service I resigned from the RAAF and moved our family to Albany. I spent some time doing odd jobs around town while setting up a mobile hose van. With the old phone book in hand, I called OZTRAC WA, met Jeff and David, and on a handshake agreement became the Albany dealer. This was exactly when the name transitioned to Hydraulink — so in 1996 we became the very first Hydraulink mobile van in Australia.”
“My RAAF experience is foundational — the discipline, precision, technical standards and accountability directly shape the way I operate today.”
“Beyond that, my father’s advice and work ethic were pivotal. His guidance instilled a strong sense of responsibility, pride in workmanship, and a genuine interest in continuously learning new skills. Those principles still underpin how I work and lead.”
“Initially, it was the technical exposure I gained through aircraft maintenance in the RAAF — hydraulics are integral to aviation.”
“And of course, that ENZED hat from the motel guest sparked the idea that turned into an entirely new career direction.”
“The opportunity itself was compelling, but it was Jeff and David’s approach — their sales style, customer service focus and practical advice — that really sealed the decision. Hydraulink had a genuine work ethic, a strong history, and high-quality products backed by excellent support. It felt like the right fit from day one.”
“The network of people is a major highlight, along with the support structure and product quality. I’ve always felt that Hydraulink has my back — all the way up to Noel and Lee, who consistently show interest not just in your business but in you and your family.”
“That level of support and connection is rare, it’s a big part of why I’ve stayed and it’s been a fun ride of nearly 30 years, with plenty more still to come!”
